Your Name : Allison Herzl for ZeeJewelry
Your photo story : I was taking photo’s of Jewelry I make outside in the garden. I saw the spider. It’s called a Writing Spider. It’s the first time I have ever seen one in my garden. It’s a pretty large spider. At least 4 inches long.
This photo shows the spider has captured a meal. It looks like it made a paper bag out of the silk.
Website, if you have one : www.zeejewelry.com or www.zeejewelry.me where I wrote a blog about this spider.
Country where photo was photographed: United States
Camera and equipment you used of the photo: Nikon3100 with Nikkor Lens AF-5 DX Micro85mm
Kindest regards,
Allison
man,, I hate spiders……. but this is one awesome picture!!
Thank You so much!
That’s a really well captured image, Allison. If I saw a four inch spider I would head for Mars.
Wow! I can’t believe I won. I had to photograph this spider. Thank you so much!
It’s incredible – looks like there are two eyes in the middle of its body.
Truly a beautiful spider. It does look like the eyes are in the middle.
Mother of God! It’s a writing spider in the flesh!! Beautiful (?) photo, I have to admit. I live in Texas where these things grow as big as salad plates. No exaggeration. My husband and daughter saw one on a fence beside the roadway that they could see driving by! They are benign creatures and they look beautiful and make very creative webs. They eat mosquitoes too. A friend allowed two to live on her patio for a long time. UGH… However, they are not as fearsome as tarantulas.
Everything grows bigger in Texas
So I’ve heard. Tarantula…I would have run Faster then Forrest Gump.
Awesome:)
Thanks
Wov … don’t really know what say here, never seen anything like this. So delicate, fragile, clear and powerful. An stunning photo !!!!
I’m so glad I was able to take the pictures. Thank you!
Stunning photo – never seen anything like. Well done.
Thanks again! I am truly honored

Wow! Beautiful photo of a scary looking writing spider. You are very brave.
I really appreciatethis. I tried to be as brave as possible. Since it was having a snack, I thought it would have no interest in me.
I was able to get the shot. Thanks
Charlotte’s web springs to mind?
Excellent photo!
I had done some research on the web about this spider. It is a female. Thank you so much!
A great shot of a awesome specimen, poor thing loss half a leg.
Hi, It’s the photo that makes the legs appear that way. Believe me, all the legs are intact. Thank you so much! I truly appreciate your comment
Thank You Matt George! This means a lot to me. I have never won a contest in my life. To win for something I had to overcome my fear….means even more to me. Much Appreciated, Allie
Reblogged this on zeejewelry.
Fantastic shot. We have spiders similar looking to this all over our land, and sometimes come face to face with them when picking berries or tomatoes, but this is a truly amazing close-up.
Thank you so much! I really tried hard to get up close and not be afraid at the same time. The fact that it didnt come out blurry tells me I was ok with the spider
The sack it made for it’s “grocery” I thought was pretty amazing too. I felt lucky to have that in the photograph.
This is awesome! I like it =)
wow your such an amazing photographer!
I’ve heard that Writing Spiders only live at happy homes. So congratulations! You’ve been judged worthy!!!
