I’m a very keen amateur photographer, and shoot mainly images of flowers, insects, and wildlife – anything from tiny frogs and birds to koala and kangaroos, in my 3 acre garden and surrounding area. I love taking macro shots of insects or flower parts, and there is always something interesting to photograph.
I am submitting this photo of a Katydid, taken a couple of days ago in my back yard in Central Victoria, Australia. Katydids are related to grasshoppers, and will often stay on the same plant for a number of days. This one is posing on top of a bud of an Anemone japonica or Japanese windflower.
I shoot with a Canon 550D, and I used my Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens.
My photography blog is at www.smcbphoto.com where you will find an ever changing gallery of images.
Thanks again,
Sue McB

Poor Katy, one antennae is missing.

Wow!
Thank you everyone for your lovely responses – I’m thrilled to have my photo chosen the very first time I entered this comp!
The comment by SL Schildan made me look again at the image – the lack of antennae is actually because it was out of focus…..she/he did have two of them, and I realised I meant to post a different shot which showed both! Silly me!
fantastic picture, I love close up shots like that
That’s a very nice shot of a very nice little bug.
Lovely photo!

Incredible! How is this possible!

Very Cool, I love macro photography, can’t wait until we get some flowers here to get some shots
You have even captured the personality, well done.
Great insect shot. Wonder what happened to its other antennae?
